BELMONT, Mass. — On November 1, the Amaras Art Alliance and the Erebuni Saturday School presented an Armenian Children’s Concert featuring a sparkling performance by Noune Karapetian at the First Armenian Church Hall.

Arminé Medzorian, principal of the school, welcomed and thanked all those who had donated their services, gifts and energy for this school benefit performance. Medzorian said, “It was encouraging to see so many happy, bright-eyed children sitting on their colorful pillows, enthusiastically waiting for the show to begin.”

All of the proceeds from the concert went to the Erebuni Armenian Saturday School.

Karapetian, the creative director of the show, a songwriter/producer as well as the star singer, opened the show. She was enchanting and delightful. Her lilting soprano voice and fine diction pleased everyone. She immediately captivated the children and audience with her charm and playful spirit, performing traditional Armenian children’s songs and new compositions.

The show was based on her CD, “Tsapik, Tsapik,” which premiered at the Charles Mosesian Theater in Watertown in 2006. It was nominated for the best children’s album at the Armenian Music Awards 2007 in Los Angeles. Among the children’s favorites were the Chop Chop song, which made the children want to splash around. Blowing multitudes of tiny bubbles from the stage delighted the children. The Choo Choo Train song surprised old and young alike as it chugged around the audience. Old folk songs like Antsrev, Kerin Yegav and Arev Arev were beautifully arranged by Gegham Margaryan.

Karapetian graduated from Yerevan’s Komitas National Conservatory with high honors, majoring in voice. She lives and teaches in Belmont with her husband and two children.

The Erebuni Armenian Saturday School hours are on Saturdays from 10 a.m. To 1 p.m. at the Plymouth Congregational Church, located at 582 Pleasant St. For more information visit erebunischool.org.
