Nishan Parlakian Dies

NEW YORK — Dr. Nishan Parlakian, 86, died on September 12. An outgoing and beloved figure in the Armenian community as well as in the broader worlds of drama and academia, Parlakian was emeritus professor of theater at John Jay College, CUNY, and a playwright and a director who staged many plays in Armenian and in English.

He wrote extensively on Armenian theater and translated numerous plays from the Armenian. Editor of three anthologies on various types of Armenian drama, he had served as president of the Pirandello Society of America.

He leaves behind his wife of many years, Florence, and his children. A full obituary will be forthcoming next week.
