Highest Church Holiday Marked with Great Pomp and Ceremony at Holy Echmiadzin

ECHMIADZIN — On April 5, the Feast of the Glorious Resurrection of Jesus Christ was celebrated in the Mother See of Holy Echmiadzin. Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians celebrated Divine Liturgy in the Holy Cathedral of Holy Descent, conveying the triumphant good news “Christ is risen from the dead” to Armenians worldwide.

The Pontifical Divine Liturgy was attended by the President of the Republic of Armenia, Serge Sargisian and First Lady Rita Sargisian; Galust Sahakyan, president of the National Assembly; Hovik Abrahamyan, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia; as well as members of the National Assembly, members of the Supreme Spiritual Council, benefactors of the Holy See, participants of the Armenian General Benevolent Union’s 88th General Assembly led by the AGBU President Berge Setrakian, representatives and executives of diplomatic missions accredited to Armenia and International organizations, representatives in the fields of education and the arts and many pilgrims.

Students from the Armenian Church Youth Centers jointly operated by the Mother See and the AGBU; students of the Eurnekian Secondary Public School of Vagharshapat; and members of the AGBU Yerevan Scout troupes, were also present at the Mother See.

The Pontifical Canopy Bearers were: Artak Zakaryan, president of the RA National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Foreign Relations; Artur Osikyan, director of the Justice Ministry’s Penitentiary Department; Dr. Arman Babloyan, director of the Arabkir Medical Center and Simon Ter-Simonyan, chairman of the Coordinating Committee on Government Charitable Programs.

Assisting the catholicos at the Holy Altar were Archbishop Nathan Hovhannisyan, director of External Relations and Protocol Department; and Bishop Bagrat Galstanyan, director of the Religious Conceptual Issues Office of Mother See.
