ANKARA (PanARMENIAN.Net) — “Treasure hunters” in Ankara destroyed an ancient Armenian cemetery, with human bones strewn everywhere, according to Hye Tert.

The cemetery is also used as a picnic venue. The cemetery was the only reminder of the Armenian presence in Ankara’s district of Sincan. A while ago, the city municipality moved some of the well-preserved tombstones to the municipal park to create an “open air museum.” Later, the tombstones were removed, and reportedly sent to the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations.

Several years ago, the cemetery was fenced, yet the measure proved useless. The fence was broken down, with the graves desecrated by treasure hunters.
