STEPANAKERT – On the evening of May 15, President of the Republic of Mountainous Karabagh Bako Sahakian received in his offices in the capital of Stepanakert a delegation of representatives of the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party (ADLP) and the Tekeyan Cultural Association (TCA), composed of Edmond Azadian, Hagop Avedikian, Karen Kakoyan and Gayane Muradyan.

During a discussion which lasted approximately one hour, issues connected to the Pan-Armenian Fund, the situation in Artsakh after the parliamentary elections, the role of political parties in the second Armenian republic, and the strengthening and progress of education and culture were considered. President Sahakian, taking into consideration the domestic peculiarities of the second republic, indicated some reservations concerning the fruitfulness of political party activity in Artsakh, and instead stressed the importance and necessity of expanding cultural and educational activity there.

The ADLP-TCA representatives informed the president that at present our two organizations are conducting studies in order to adopt plans which may greatly help in efforts toward the cultural advancement and self-expression of our youth in Stepanakert and Shushi.

The president proposed that such possible programs be examined together with Minister of Culture and Youth of the Republic of Mountainous Karabagh Narine Aghabalian for the purpose of potential implementation.

As Sahakian was going to leave the next morning to France, the joint ADLP-TCA delegation wished him a safe and fruitful trip, and prior to being photographed, presented a book by historian and Ottomanist Avedis Papazian, The Armenian Genocide According to the Documents of the Young Turks’ Trial (in Armenian), which was republished on the initiative of the executive of the ADLP of the Republic of Armenia. In his turn, the president distributed souvenirs to the members of the delegation.
