BERLIN (Armenpress) — Germany’s Foreign Minister photo met his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu in Turkey last week, Deutsche Welle reports. At the end of the meeting the Ministers participated in a press conference. Steinmeier expressed his concerns over the mass arrests and detentions following the military coup attempt, as well as the restrictions on freedom of speech in Turkey. He expressed his surprise over Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s statement which said that “Germany is a safe country for terrorists”.

“We cannot accept such accusations,” Steinmeier said, and thanked Cavusoglu “for a not so easy meeting.” Steinmeier was scheduled to meet with Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim on November 15.
