TENAFLY, N.J. — On December 10, it became the second year in a row that the Tekeyan Cultural Association’s Mher Megerdchian Theatrical Group held its Christmas Party at the twin halls of St. Thomas Armenian Church in New Jersey. Over 350 Tekeyan and Megerdchian theater group members and friends, including a large number of youth, joined the celebration.

Only a few days earlier, on December 5, the Megerdchian Theatrical Group had the misfortune to lose one of its founders and longtime actors, Karnig Nercessian, in New York. He had performed many leading roles over the 17-year life of the group. Out of respect, the theatrical group’s chairman, Harout Chatmajian, invited the church’s pastor, Fr. Papken Anoushian, the executive members of the group, and the actors to the stage to stand for a moment of silence in respect for Nercessian’s memory.

Then the music and program began. The popular singer Joseph Krikorian had been invited from Los Angeles with his band specially for this occasion. They sang Armenian folk and patriotic songs as well as international songs, creating great enthusiasm in the audience. Vicken Makoushian, Raffi Massoyan and Steve Vosbikian also performed during the program.

The program ended past midnight, while the youth were still dancing.
