All the above testifies that Russian “support” for the Armenian side is a myth which is nurtured by Azeris to raise the “fighting spirit” of its army and to occasionally paint itself as a victim of Russian aggression (depending on the audience – e.g. Central European countries love to hear such stories). Please do not contribute to the spread of this myth.

Sir,

While I agree with the general message of your article, I can't but point out the false information you put there apparently to reinforce your point:

"During that war, Russia not only provided [Armenia] the armaments, but also the political and military support." - this is a picture Azeri propaganda is trying to paint to the World - and its own people (to justify the shameful loss they suffered during the war).

Facts however are telling a different story:

- the only time Soviet army was openly engaged in the conflict - was on Azeri side implementing ethnic cleansing in Shahumian district of the former Azeri SSR from Armenians

- in the height of Karabakh war Russia itself was in the state of chaos with tanks on the streets of Moscow; in that conditions Russia lacked any well-defined policy on Caucasus let alone means for its implementation

- the weapon Karabakh war was fought with was coming from ex-USSR Army; Azerbaijan inherited far far more weapon and armaments than Armenia - by the virtue of it being bigger and more strategically placed; in fact, the inequality of weaponry was far bigger than it may be today; for more objective info on this you may even go to Wikipedia sources: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karabakh_War - pay special attention to aircraft - where Armenian side "inherited" exactly nothing
