CALIFORNIA
APRIL 9 — “Orphans of the Genocide” Screening & Director Q&A, Thursday, at 7 p.m., The Florida Holocaust Museum, 55 5th Street South, St. Petersburg. Hear from South Florida film director Bared Maronian as he presents his documentary on the orphanages that housed the many orphans who lost parents and were separated from siblings during the Armenian Genocide. The Armenian Genocide is the complete story of the first Genocide of the 20th century. It features interviews with Pulitzer Prize-winning author Samantha Power, and best-selling author Peter Balakian, and contains historical footage of the events. Film starts at 9:30 p.m. (60 minutes).
APRIL 23 — “Rising from the Ashes of Tragedy” Lecture and Student Panel Discussion Thursday, at 2 p.m., University of South Florida (USF), Tampa, Main Library, 4th Floor Grace Allen Room. The USF Libraries Holocaust and Genocide Studies Center host Armenian scholar Dr. Garabet Moumdjian for a presentation entitled “Rising from the Ashes of Tragedy – Armenia’s Triumph Over Its Genocide.” A panel discussion by USF students will follow the presentation.

APRIL 1-30 — Photography exhibit by Tom Vartabedian commemorating the centennial of the Armenian Genocide at Haverhill Public Library, 99 Main St., showing images of the country and its people, including scenes of the eternal flame in Armenia. Display is by the Children’s Room in the upstairs gallery.
APRIL 4-JUNE 13 — “Kiss the Ground” is a three part exhibition series that examines contemporary Armenian art at a particular moment in history — organized to overlap the centennial memorialization of the 1915 Armenian Genocide. Thompson Gallery, Cambridge School of Weston, 45 Georgian Road, Weston. The final show in the series, A New Armenia is a group exhibition that brings together Armenian artists working in a variety of media: John Avakian (print-making); Gail Boyajian (painting); Adrienne Der Marderosian (works on paper); Jackie Kazarian (painting); Aida Laleian (digital collage on various materials); Yefkin Megherian (bronze bas-reliefs); Marsha Odabashian (painting installation); Kevork Mourad (time-based drawing video projections); Jessica Sperandio (laser cut installation art) and Apo Torosyan (assemblage and documentary film). APRIL 6 — Stephen Kurkjian, retired award-winning investigative journalist will speak about his new book, Master Thieves, at St. James’ Armenian Church Men’s Club. Social Hour starts at 6:15 p.m. followed by a complete kheyma and losh kebab dinner at 7 p.m. $14 per person. APRIL 9 — Lecture presentation, “Don’t Come, Doctor, There’s no Cure: Physicians, Nurses, and the Armenian Genocide.” Speaker: Khatchig Mouradian, coordinator, Armenian Genocide Program, Center for the Study of Genocide and Human Rights at Rutgers University. APRIL 12 – Program on “Near East Relief and Its Legacy: A Century of Service to Armenians and to Humanity” at 2 p.m. at the National Heritage Museum, 33 Marrett Road (intersection of Route 2A and Mass Ave), Lexington, MA. Presented by the National Association for Armenian Studies and Research (NAASR) and the Near East Foundation. Featuring Shant Mardirossian, Chairman of the Board of the Near East Foundation, Dr. Charlie Benjamin, President of the Near East Foundation, Molly Sullivan, Director and Curator of the Near East Relief Society, and historian and member of the NAASR Board of Directors, Dr. Suzanne Moranian. Also participating will be dignitaries including His Excellency Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the United Nations. The program is free and open to the public and will be followed by a reception. The event is made possible by a donation by Peter Palandjian.

APRIL 17 — Worcester State College Theatre will present “Beast on the Moon” in honor of the victims of the Armenian Genocide. The play, by Richard Kalinoski, is about two Genocide survivors, Aram and Seta, living in 1920s Milwaukee. Tickets are on sale now for $14 general admission, $10 seniors, and $7 students. APRIL 19 — Genocide Centennial Concert: “Lest We Forget.” Erevan Choral Society, sponsored by Holy Trinity Armenian Church, 2:30 p.m., Church Sanctuary, 145 Brattle St., Cambridge. The Concert is under the direction of Composer Konstantin Petrossian, music director and conductor, with guest soloist, David Gevorkian, duduk, and Nune Hakobyan on the organ and piano. The community is invited to join us as we commemorate through music this dark period in Armenian history. The concert is a gift to the community.
APRIL 19 — “Blood for Memory” Blood Drive in Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide organized by Armenian American Medical Association (AAMA) of the Greater Boston Area in collaboration with Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and sponsorship of Armenian Cultural and Educational Center. APRIL 23 — As part of the centennial commemoration program of the Massachusetts community, several programs are planned. On Thursday, at 7:30 p.m., Trinity Church in Copley Square, Boston, will host a Memorial Service, presented by the Massachusetts Council of Churches in cooperation with the Armenian clergy of Massachusetts.
APRIL 24 — A series of events will take place to mark the Genocide centennial. A joint Divine Liturgy by all New England Armenian Churches will take place at 10 a.m., at Holy Trinity Armenian Church, 145 Brattle St., Cambridge. Buses will take those interested to the State House, where a program will take place from 1:15 to 1:45. A procession will follow at 2 p.m. to the Armenian Heritage Park, where the commemorative program will take place from 2:30 to 3 p.m. Finally a vigil will take place in the park starting at 7:30 p.m. For more information on the Mass. APRIL 25 — Armenian Genocide Centennial commemoration sponsored by the Armenian National Committee of Merrimack Valley, 10 a.m., at Lowell City Hall, following a procession from John Street a block away, led by the Armenian-American Veterans. Participants are asked to gather at 9:30. Luncheon buffet to follow with the showing of a film.
MAY 12 — Julia and the Zerounian Ensemble Spring Concert. Enjoy an evening of old-fashioned nightclub glamorous chanteuse singing in English, French Italian, Armenian, Russian, Persian and Yiddish. 7:30 p.m. Tickets $24 and $19 for students.

MAY 9 — Reception and Banquet at the Marriott Marquis Hotel at 6 p.m. will feature Dr. Vartan Gregorian with Mark Geragos as emcee. Institutions and individuals who helped Armenians will be honored, and special attention will be paid to all those suffering genocide and human rights abuses around the world, remembering especially those who are still in danger today.
